Chapter 11
10 And these were the heads of the mighty ones who strengthened themselves with David in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. 11 And these are the number of the mighty men who belonged to David: Ishbaal son of Hakmoni, head of the thirds. He aroused his spear upon three hundreds slain at one time. 12 After him, Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, who was his relative. He was among the three mighty men. 13 He was with David at Pas Dammim, and the Philistines gathered there for battle, and the portion of the field was full of barley, and the people fled from the face of the Philistines. 14 And they stationed themselves in the midst of the portion and delivered it and struck the Philistines, and the LORD brought great salvation. 15 Three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the camp of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim. 16 And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. 17 David longed and he said, "Who will give me drink of the water from the pit of the gate of Bethlehem?" 18 And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was at the gate, and carried it and brought it to David. But David was not willing to drink it and poured it out to the LORD. 19 And he said, "Far be it to me before God to do this, to drink the blood of these men with their vital life forces, for with their vital life forces they brought them." And he was not willing to drink them. The LORD did this, the three mighty men. 20 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the three, and he brandished his spear against three hundred slain, and he gained a name among the three. 21 He was honored above the three and became their chief, but he did not attain to the three. 22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a man of might from Kabzeel, he struck down the two Ariel of Moab. He went down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit on a day of snow. 23 And he struck an Egyptian man, a man of five cubits measure, and in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear like a weaver's lampstand, and he went down to him with a staff and seized the spear from the hand of the Egyptian and killed him with his spear. 24 These things made Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he had a name among the three mighty men. 25 He was honored among the thirty, but he did not come to the three. And David set him over his charge. 26 And the mighty ones of the powers of God—brother of Joab, Elhanan son of his beloved from Bethlehem. 27 Names of the Harorite, he loosed the such-and-such-one. 28 Ira son of Crookedness the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite. 29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite. 30 Maharai the Netophathite, Held son of Benaiah the Netophathite. 31 Ithai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin, Benaiah the one who broke through me. 32 Hori from the streams of Gaash, Abiel the Arbite. 33 Azmaveth the Bahurimite, Eliachba the Sha-albonite 34 Ben son of Husham the Gizonite, Jonathan son of Shageh the Hararite. 35 Ahiam son of Sakar the Hararite, Eliphal son of Ur. 36 Hepher the Machrathite, Ahijah the Pelonite. 37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai son of Ezbai. 38 Joel the brother of Nathan, the chosen son of the Hagrite. 39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armor-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah. 40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite. 41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad son of Achli. 42 Adina son of Shiza the Reubenite, a leader of the Reubenites, with thirty men under him. 43 Hanan son of Maacah and Jehoshaphat the Matthanite. 44 Aziza the Ashterite, Shema and Jehiel son of Hotham the Aroerite. 45 Jediael son of Shmeri and Jicha his brother, the Tizite. 46 Eliel the Machavite and Iribi and Joshaviah sons of Elnaam and Ithma the Moabite. 47 Eliel and Obed and Jaasiel the Mezbaite.
